Plastic Planet

Plastic Planet

Audience: Elementary and Middle Schools

Subjects: Environmental Sciences

Duration: 45 minutes approx

Description:
With this new and never more relevant show, Theatre In Italy aim to tackle possibly the biggest issue of our time: the climate emergency.

The performance presents examples of why our planet is so unique: from the fascinating behaviour of animals to the communication of trees, and using practical demonstrations to put this in a context that the students can understand.

It also confronts the real and practical aspects of our everyday lives that contribute to climate change and offers practical steps that the students can take to make a difference.

The show discusses this huge and complex issue in a down-to-earth style using humour and physical theatre to inform students of the real facts while keeping the show entertaining and dynamic. As with all of our shows, the students always play an active part in the performance, helping to put the issue in context for the audience with experiments and practical demonstrations.

The Project

The project has four phases:

  1. Bottle-top collection scheme:
Plastic bottle-tops can be reused before being recycled!
The school is invited to participate in a simple plastic bottle-top collection scheme. All bottle-tops collected by the school will be accepted by Theatre in Italy on the day of the performance. We will then deliver them to an association which in turn sells them to the plastic industry. They then use the profits to buy wheelchairs for the disabled. This way you help the environment and disabled people in need!
  2. Lesson Pack:
In the weeks before the show we will send you a lesson pack to use with students in the classroom to prepare them for the topics and language used in the show.
  3. The performance:
The students watch the show and participate as volunteers, helping to tell the story themselves.
  4. Info Pack:
After the show we will send you an info pack full of links to websites where you will find articles and videos about all of the topics covered in the show as well as solutions to environmental problems which the students can use to fight climate change as individuals or as a group.

Technical Information:
All of our shows are very flexible and designed to be performed in non-conventional theatre spaces- they can be performed in any large room or gym, depending on the size of the audience.
